going down the linux rabbit hole

So I recently got recommended some videos and articles about Linux, mainly Arch Linux. I knew there were different versions of Linux and I think back in school I used Ubuntu or something. I know of Kali Linux as I started getting more into ethical hacking and even installed Kali on my Raspberry Pi to play around with. I also knew that the majority of devices and servers run Linux.

I never really went deeper though, but now that I keep getting recommended so many Arch Linux videos and videos of other distros I got really interested. I want to see what all the hype is about.

Im currently in the process of moving and I found my old PC which still works. I used to play video games on it, but nowadays I usually work on my laptop as its more convenient and portable. So I thought, why not use my old PC and try out some different Linux distros. There are really basic ones like Ubuntu or Debian but also more "advanced" ones like Arch Linux or Gentoo where you basically have to build the operating system from the bottom up. And then there is also LFS (Linux From Scratch) which is really like building the whole operating system from scratch.

I think its kinda exciting to build something like this and try out all the different distros.

I recently bought myself a VPS to host my projects and I really love it. Before, I used shared hosters which were expensive and didnt give you the freedom to configure the server how you wanted. Now I had to manage my own server and learn a little bit of Linux. Im nowhere near as knowledgeable as I would like to be, so I thought, why not get into distros and just learn them inside out. The best way is probably to start with the "easy" ones first and then slowly move to the more difficult ones. If you can configure Linux from scratch you probably have a really good grasp on Linux. That knowledge will most likely also help when setting up servers, troubleshooting problems and just being more comfortable with Linux overall.

So yeah, as soon as I moved into the new place im going to install as many distros as I can get my hands on and try them all out. I will also try to document the process for youtube!
